Best Spots for Fireworks & Celebrations
Melbourne’s official fireworks display lights up the city at midnight, with multiple viewing zones across the CBD. Here are the top places to catch the action:
- Federation Square – The heart of Melbourne’s celebrations with live music and entertainment.
- Southbank Promenade – Stunning views of the Yarra River and city skyline.
- Docklands – A family-friendly zone with early fireworks and activities for kids.
Arrive early to secure a good vantage point, as these areas fill up quickly.
Key Road Closures – NYE 2025/26
Melbourne CBD and Docklands will have a number of road closures and restrictions on 31 December:
- Docklands: All roads west of Harbour Esplanade close from 8pm.
- CBD celebration zones: Around Flagstaff Gardens, Treasury Gardens, Kings Domain/The Shrine, and Docklands—expect heavy crowd controls and restricted vehicle access.
Road access around the city becomes very limited from the evening onward, so plan ahead if you’re driving. Check the City of Melbourne website for the latest updates on closures and detours.
Parking in Melbourne with DIVVY
